About Bit by Bit

Hi. I'm Mike.
And this is why I built Bit by Bit.

Marine intelligence veteran. New dad. Founder of a space built for people who want preparedness without the hyperbole.

Where I'm From and What I Did

My name is Mike. I'm the founder of Bit by Bit. Originally from New England, I enlisted in the military after graduating college and served six years as an intelligence specialist in the Marines. I was lucky enough to utilize my training and gain experience in numerous small tactical environments — all the way up to combatant command levels of intelligence analysis and production.

Launching Bit by Bit Prepping was the culmination of three important goals.

Why Bit by Bit Exists
  1. Utilize my knowledge, training, and skillset from the Marines toward something meaningful after my enlistment.
  2. Grow a space in the emergency preparedness and prepping community that focuses on the most practical means of achieving measurable outcomes in preparedness.
  3. Broaden and normalize the conversations surrounding the world of prepping — without the hyperbolic nonsense that keeps so many people locked out of it.

Becoming a Father Changed the Why

The idea of propping up and building out an environment online for Bit by Bit Prepping became more front and center in my life at the birth of our first son last December. At this point, emergency preparedness is not solely about me anymore — it's now centered around a wife and son I owe it to, to be a responsible and prepared father and husband.

Providing for my son now that he is here has been quite the change in how I view preparedness as it relates to my new family dynamic. It's more about being organized and proactive in planning for him for the little things — and ensuring that I'm carrying my weight in the mental load I should be as a dad as well.

The financial reality of having a child in the US in 2026 speaks for itself. There isn't an inch of this country where having children is financially secure for the majority of Americans, and the northeast is no exception. That reality shapes everything Bit by Bit is and isn't.

Becoming a dad and raising a family was always something I longed and hoped for. The reality of fatherhood, in one sense, was something I was always ready for — and in the same breath, has taken on a life of its own.

Why Now

What fatherhood has done is force me to refocus the time and energy I do have at the now, and to stop making excuses for putting off something important — building out a reliable home for those who align with the importance of emergency preparedness and prepping, without all the hyperbolic nonsense.

Quite frankly, in 2026, there seems every reason to step in — and more importantly, step up — now.

If any of this resonates, come along.
